I'm pretty certain I've had dengue fever this week. One mosquito bit my neck.I thought it was my hair clip rubbing against my neck but a bit later I realized there was a bite there. He bit me Tuesday night when I tied back my hair before going to bed. By Wednesday I was suffering from nausea and head aches, I couldn't stay awake, I was changing from total sweating to feeling as cool as I had in Ontario within an hour and every bone in my body ached, so much so, I imagined it must be what it feels like to have bone cancer throughout your body. We had a friend die from bone cancer - he used to describe the pain to me as we drove our babies to play school outings. But I digress. Lying down didn't help ease the pain but aspirin did take it away after an hour. At 4:00 pm when Hubert, our gardener, knocked on the door asking for bus fare home he apologized for waking me up. I guess I looked worse than I thought but I'd basically slept all day.Thursday was much better and today seems better still, although I do have a bit of achiness in my lower legs and my tummy is still a tad upset. The good thing is, I'm now immune to this strain for life...however, there are 4 strains. One person died this week and there were 132 reported cases. Mine went unreported because I didn't understand what was wrong with me and in actual fact it wasn't any worse than a bad flu with a high fever and without the runny nose. But I think I got a mild dose and I definitely have a good immune system. I rarely get colds or the flu.The funny thing is mosquitoes rarely bite me so I was the least likely candidate. This one left a big lump on my neck.
