Laura pointed out to us this weekend that there appears to be an unlimited number of places to visit in Jamaica for such a small island. I don't think we'll ever run out of new places to visit and things to do. This weekend we went to Winnifred Beach and stayed at the funky Mikuzi Guest House.Getting to the beach was a short walk down a rocky loose gravel road past houses and goats and free range chickens. I was tempted to look behind flower pots and bushes to see if I could find where they were laying their eggs. This weekend's flower finds included the ones below. The spikey one immediately below is called a cocktail and was growing right down on the beach beside the restauant dining room shelter.Steve at Mikuzi roasted breadfruits on the bbq for us. We also cooked some chicken on the bbq which we served with roasted potatoes and avocado salad.Steve skillfully sliced open some coconuts for the water which he poured into a blender with cut up oranges...the beginnings of something nutritious for possibly the owner's breakfast. Before heading down to the beach, George and I backtracked up to the roadside store for water. We lucked out amd got their last bottle so supplemented our dietary needs with a carbonated orange drink which tasted quite fine. What a lovely beach. It was relaxing and they had plastic chairs which they call appropriately "beds" that I could rent while resting my arm and feeling like a princess. We were visited by numerous ctafts people selling jewelry, music and shells. I really should remember to take more cash with me on the beach. This one in particular had good quality items and good prices so there was less need fpr aggressive haggling. They also custom made exactly what you wanted. This man made Laura a bamboo vase in the colour she wanted and she got to choose the design as well and he carved it right while we all waited out a storm under shelter.Immediately after the rain stopped, the restaurant owners sent someone up on the roof to fix it. Laura bought lunch there and told us it was the best Jamaican food she had ever been served. It was a large slice of marlin. It sounded so good I regretted eating leftover chicken and spending our money on beach beds.To see pictures of our stay in the equally funky but more elegant Kingston Mikuzi, go to:http://mwapoleni-bunty.blogspot.com/2010/03/waiting-for-breakfast.html
