What a whirlwind of a week! My last week has been busy, but truly incredible. Some of the highlights have included:- Visiting KIDA Handcrafts workshop in Kibera and seeing the amount of stock and the new equipment that they now have as a result of the work that we’ve been doing together. (The Chairperson of KIDA and I have been working on fundraising and finding new sales outlets for the handcrafts produced by visually impaired people in the slums of Kibera and Dagoretti.)- The annual fine wine show, which doubled as a chance for me to say goodbye to many of the friends that I have made over the past two years. Once again, this year it didn’t disappoint! - An impromptu going away party on my last afternoon at the Kenya Union of the Blind, with heartwarming speeches and sharing of memories, over nyama choma (roasted goat), chicken, ugali, katchumbari, and sodas. - Discovering the“Community Cooker” project, which my friend Marco is spearheading on behalf of Planning Systems Services as a Corporate Social Responsibility initiative. Emma and I are helping to re-write and reposition the communications materials for this project and had the chance to see it in action in Kibera on Saturday during Clean Up the World Day. In a nutshell, it coverts piles of rubbish, including organic matter, plastic bags and even‘flying toilets’ into energy to make hot water for washing, sterilize water for drinking and heat for cooking. (Very cool!) - Enjoying the our friends’ home where we are staying and playing with their gorgeous dog.- Having my final pizza, cappuccino and chocolate volcano dessert at my favourite Art Caffé on Friday night with a new friend.- Getting the opportunity to visit the St. Marion’s Children’s home in South B, which some of my friends and family have helped to support recently.I leave Kenya in 48 hours and it’ll definitely be on a high note!
