There were a lot of power cuts in work today- I’ve been told they get more regular as the rains start. And it was pouring down today. So the weather- an interesting topic of conversation! Most mornings the sun has been shining and I definitely don’t need a coat. In that sense it is different to the UK. However, just because it is warm in the morning does not mean to say it will remain so all day. In that sense it is very similar to the UK! If it’s going to rain it seems to start in the afternoon (although having spoken to my colleague about this it would seem this is just a coincidence and not a given!) The rains are really heavy and people do not go out in it- so wherever you are you stay there until it stops. It is not just a fear of getting wet that prevents people from going outside- the rains are really torrential and becausethe ground is very dusty the rain can quickly create a river of mud streaming down the road! I have noticed that I have started calling rain ‘the rains’- I think this is because it is so heavy I feel that there must be about three rain showers all in one go!I spent the first rain shower in the bank setting up my Rwandan bank account. I spent the remaining rain showers in work. The rain kindly held off whilst I walked home so there was no surfing on the mud for me. Our landlord came to see us tonight and truly must have left thinking that we are very silly Muzungus! As you will know if you have read this blog- I was under the impression we had no water. Then I found out we did have water but only in one bathroom and not in any taps. When Aaron arrived today, Suzanne showed this to him. It turns out we hadn’t turned the water on! There is a lever which controls the water supply into the taps and toilet so that you can turn it off for each unit if there is a leak etc- I imagine very similar to the UK.We had pasta Napolitano for tea today
