I’m not lost but I don’t know where I am

I slept so late today. It was wonderful! I really needed it after two weeks of training and early starts. I wandered down to the bank once I was up and dressed but it was closed and I’d forgotten to bring a bag for the shopping so it was a bit of a pointless journey. (Plastic bags are illegal in Rwanda and apparently you shouldn’t carry food in your hands so you always have to remember to bring shopping bags with you.)In the afternoon we went to Karen’s birthday party which was brilliant. It was a carnival fair theme and so much effort had been put into the preparation. There were different games and if you were successful you won tickets which could be exchanged for food, drink or prizes! There was skittles, fishing, hoopla, throw the ball into the clowns mouth, throw the ball into a cup, and drop the peg into a cup. We also played a game with water balloons. Needless to say I got soaked!Children watching the skittles tournamentWater balloon funOn the way to Karen’s party we got a little lost! Michael had come to meet me, Julia and Suzanne. He told our moto drivers the name of where we wanted to go and then turned round to get onto his own moto. In the time that it took him to turn around all of our moto drivers zoomed off in the wrong direction! It turnsout there are two areas called St Andre- each at the opposite end of town. So then Michael didn’t know where we had gone and we didn’t know where he had gone. Luckily the genius invention that is mobile phones meant that a quick phone call and another moto ride later we were all reunited. Funnily enough, despite this being the first time this has happened, the same thing happened to Pauline and Collette on their way to the party! Everyone in the other area of St Andre must have wondered why all these confused looking Muzungus kept turning up, making a phone call, and then disappearing again!
