It was a sad day today as we had our last Kinyarwanda lesson with Alphonse. We gave him a card which he seemed really happy with and then we took some photos with him. He wasn’t happy with the first one as he was stood next to two men so we had to retake it with him stood next to me and Cathy!Alphonse and his Kinyarwanda studentsAfter lunch we all descended on Kigali to buy items for what will be our new homes. It felt a lot like Supermarket Sweep as we ran up and down aisles filling baskets upon baskets. As always, I was not good at shopping at all- although I did manage to get a very fetching pink bucket with yellow handle after seeing Mark with one! Randomly as Julia and I were heading back to the guest house we saw the sister of my employer heading home from University- as big as Kigali seems to me it is still a small world! We found out today that Cathy and Louise will be leaving tomorrow after the Employer’s workshop. This was a bit of a shock and it really hit home that we were all about to embark on our placements and wouldn’t be seeing each other for quite a while. We swiftly descended on the local bar after dinner to celebrate Suzanne’s birthday which is in a couple of days and to have a last group beer. It was really nice as everyone made the effort to come and we have such a great group of volunteers that it was a lovely evening for us all.
