Today was our‘lie in’. A ‘lie in’ here seems to mean we have breakfast at 8 rather than 7.30 so not really what I had in mind but an extra half hour is not to be sneered at! We took a trip to the market in the morning. There was loads of really nice material- I plan to get a dress made asap as I don’tthink I have really bought the correct clothing. Despite the hours of research I did before I arrived I failed to realise that showing your shoulders isn’t encouraged and showing your knees just isn’t done here. As someone who is nearing on 6 foot- all skirts are above the knee for me! So of thefive smart skirts I brought with me, only two are suitable and there are only so many ways I can dress them up. What a great excuse for some new clothes!Pauline and I were entertained after lunch by Abdel-illeh, his card tricks, and his winking. It was nice to be able to relax for a while and I managed to speak to Dad on skype- we are sticking to our weekly Sunday chats! Following this I had to get ready to go to dinner with my employer. Her house was really nice and her family extremely friendly. Her three year old son was so adorable. When he found out I did not have children he said that I should stay with them until I found some as he did not want me to be lonely! (This was translated by my employer as he told me this in Kinyarwanda. A lot of the evening was spent with him chatting away in Kinyarwanda whilst showing me the underneath of his police car- I never found out why- and me just saying‘Yego’ when he paused and smiling. It seemed a pretty good conversation!)My employer dropped me off just in time to join in‘games night’ which started with us playing ‘colander of death’. We write down famous people and then in teams we have to describe who it is within a set time limit. The next round, we can only use three words to describe them, and then the following round we can only use actions. Richard’s action for Bill Clinton had us all cracking up! This was followed by card games. I had a really boss day.
