We visited the Memorial Centre today as we couldn’t go yesterday. It was obviously quite an emotional experience and afterwards we all just needed a bit of time to reflect. Louise and I went for a walk before lunch to clear our heads and change some money and this helped a lot. We also had a Kinyarwanda lesson after lunch which I was a bit concerned would be a bit hard after the morning but it was a good distraction. In the evening we had the big volunteer get together which was absolutely great. We played some‘team building’ games (an essential part of any VSO event I have learnt!) And then the Intore dancers and drummers came and performed. They were brilliant. After dinner they performed again and this time they invited us up to dance with them. In no time at all I think every volunteer was up there throwing some moves. It was so fun and we found out there are some very good dancers in our intake of volunteers- I think Abdel-illeh deserves a mention here! We were told afterwards that that was the first time all the volunteers had got up to dance, normally it’s only about 4 people, and it was also the first time the dancers had come back in their own clothes (out of costume) to dance with us. I’m glad I’m with such a fun group of volunteers!Intore dancersThe evening ended very late as I skyped Pete for the first time. It was great to be able to speak to him and just rounded off a very good evening.
