With my departure date approaching I have just written the letter resigning from my job, only my notice to work out now. Taking this step makes it all seem real after such a long time preparing. Truth to tell I have really enjoyed the last year as Community Outreach ICT Tutor in Clackmannanshire. I have liked the varied work and had a great bunch of colleagues in the literacies team but am looking forward to new challenges. One of the best things about Clackmannanshire has been the view, even after a hard day and a less than successful training session I just have to come outside and look up to the Ochil hills.I do not know if my clacks colleagues read this but they have given me such a splendid send off I am thinking that I ought to leave more often! When you join VSO they say that you are joining a world wide community, well this is true. My P to V and SKWID friends were all going to different countries and my email inbox is starting to fill up with messages from far flung places and folk feeling the culture shock of the first few weeks of their placement. Not long before I find out how well I can cope with that myself.Sijambo Jen! good luck with the Swahili, being lazy I set up this blog mostly to keep family and friends updated on my trip but it is nice to see that other folk are following it as well and sending in comments too.. I have done quite a lot of searching to dig up resources on the internet, if you are working with Kenyan sign language it might be worth trying to contact this guyhttp://forums.techsoup.org/cs/forums/t/27947.aspxVSO is a charity and has been hit hard by the falling value of the pound. Volunteers ae encouraged but not required to raise some funds for VSO, due to personal circumstances I have been able to do very little of this. However stung into action by an email reminder and a guilty conscience have set up a web page for online donations atwww.justgiving.com/kenyavso. If you can donate through my justgiving page you will be both helping VSO and easing my sense of guilt.
