Looking south east from CastelloLast week I had friends over from the UK who I haven't seen in five years. When friends visit it's always a good excuse for me to have a break myself and show them around. As it was their first time in Sardinia one of the first places I thought they should see isIl Castelloarea of Cagliari. As well as the historical interest you get amazing views of the city and the coastline. I also think it's one of the best places to get a romantic feel of the narrow, cobbly streets overhung with laundry from the balconies. Apartments here are in high demand and quite pricey. It's considered one of the most fashionable places to live. It is a very quaint  area but I personally would not enjoy the inconvenience of driving along the narrow streets looking for parking!Castello    Time for a beerMy friend Laura came along and acted as our tour guide. The only problem was her reluctance to practice  English so I ended up translating for Bev and Terry. I did appreciate her presence though as she walked us aroundVillanova, an area east of Castello, and unbeknown to me. I love showing friends around and seeing their reaction to a place that really feels like home to me. Sardinia has so much to offer in terms of natural beauty. There's less of the historical buildings, Cagliari  does give you something so it's nice when the bit it does have is appreciated by visitors. On the days I was free I enjoyed showing them some of the local area, alongSanta MargheritaandChia. They fell in love withChiaand the south coast along toTeulada. You would have to be blind not to love this! I personally think it is one of the best coast roads in Sardinia. Driving along here is therapy for the soul.Views of Turreda, South CoastAnd Chia beach, specfically the parts known asCapo SpartiventoandCala Cipollais paradise. Chia was recently voted one of the top ten beaches in the world and the best beach in Italy. This time of year there are few people on the beaches which makes it feel more like paradise. We are still experiencing temperatures in the mid 20Cs, in the water too.Chia, Cala CipollaI introduced my friends to my favourite wine distributor in Pula from the local Enoteca where it's bought 'off the tap' TheCannonauis fabulous and a great accompaniment to any meal...every lunch time for me!I really enjoyed my time with friends, reminiscing about our past trips to Peru and Borneo together. The summer season is just about at an end. Our last guests in our rented accommodation leave on Saturday and that's it until next summer. As well  as helping run the summer B&B business, I've been doing a few hours teaching through the summer, mainly private stuff, but from the end of the month I'll be working full-time in a private language school in addition to my private tuition. My summer job's ending and my winter job's starting. No rest for the wicked !!!
