Negril. Ah Negril. A walk on the beach brought offers to George and I to buy "Bob Marley smokes" and to pony-tailed Robert (way more cool) magic mushrooms and cocaine, but smiling and rejecting their offers was taken well with no repercussions. The rainy season kept the crowds away which meant Negril was quiet...as busy as we like it. We all shook our heads in bewilderment conjuring up thoughts of what it will be like in the winter months when tourism in Jamaica is booming. We unanimously vowed not to return at that time. Luckily we were staying at the very peaceful Negril Yoga Centre. This blog posting is going to feature Dominic (Domingo) since I have some really nice photos of him and this weekend marked the beginning of a 2 week extension followed by a full month's vacation before he leaves the island. So we will undoubtedly see him over the next 6 weeks, but then like Cadbury Easter Cream Eggs, he'll be gone so we have to enjoy his company while we can.Negril. What can I say about Negril? Well, there's the beautiful 7 mile beach which we walked from one end to the other. It took us all afternoon with a few stops along the way to swim, eat and drink Red Stipe. The afternoon rains and overcast skies prevented the famous crimson sunsets of Negril from gracing our presence this time round but we'll inevitably be back; it's a small island and we've still got 17 more months to explore. The businesses close to the beach suffered severe damage during the storms of the last few weeks. At least two hotels had surf-side dining areas that had collapsed. The one below with the steps no longer attached to the restaurant floor was being repaired later in the day.We played a lot of cards while sheltering from the rain and during the long Jamaican evenings which meant George and I learned how to play cribbage. A travel set maybe a good idea for a birthday present for George. The other idea I have is some sort of portable music system that can be used in a car because I can never find good radio stations as we travel about Jamaica and I'm music deprived. I need to sing my lungs out when I travel in a car and it's just not happening. But I have no idea what to buy. I got left behind with the 8-track. Just joking; at home we cart along our favourite CDs and pop them in the car player but we didn't bring any with us. We need some sort of iPod. Can you plug iPods into the cigarette lighter? And can you hear them without earplugs? Or is there something better? I need help on this. All in all I think we experienced the quintessential Negril long weekend...we did very little but ate fresh lobster on the beach.See our previous visit to Negril with Dianne...when there was a beautiful sunset.http://mwapoleni-bunty.blogspot.com/2010/06/negril.html
