I thought I'd share some pictures of Dorgali and Cala Gonone. Last weekend I went there with friends as the town of Dorgali held an art festival called'Cortes Apertas'. Some towns in Sardinia hold these festivals in order to share the local art and culture. Dorgali is in central Sardinia in an area also known as'Barbagia'which has a unique culture and mentality of its own. During these festivals some people open up their courtyards and share some of the traditions of the local area: Local artisans exhibit their crafts, you can savour some of the local foods and wines and even see the locals dressed in the Sardinian traditional costumes. The mountains in this area are very rugged and wild, the scenery is stunning as drive through central Sardinia. Just 10km east of Dorgali lies Cala Gonone an extremely popular place in the peak of the summer as it's right on the coast. Going there this time of year is much quieter but just a bit too chilly to sit on the beach although I did see some tourists sunbathing. The drive into Cala Gonone from Dorgali is breathtaking as it's a drop down to the beach from the mountains, so the views are stupendous on a glorious sunny day.I enjoyed the trip despite the three hour car journey from Cagliari. I think it's better to stay the night rather than do the drive there and back in a day.Man's traditional clothingCala GononeCala GononeStalls where you can try the local food, Dorgali
