Our Sunday morning Skype date back home informed us that the weather in Toronto was 3 degrees and then later today I received an email from my friend in Gatineau with a picture of her grand daughter playing in the snow with the cutest, tiniest snowman you ever saw balanced in between the blades of grass, but snowman it was on Halloween. We spent the day at the beach in the sunshine, swimming. Well there were threatening clouds over us and we could hear thunder in the distance at one point but Hellshire stayed true to its word and didn't rain. It's difficult to comprehend cold when you're warm in Jamaica. The fish above is a goat tail snapper, my favourite. Below is Alex cooking up our fish for lunch in his kitchen. Later he drove us to Portmore to catch the bus home. The USAID tarp is the ceiling to Alex's restaurant.Stephanie asked to ride the horse on the beach for a few minutes and the owner asked her to keep riding to entice more customers. It worked his business perked up considerably afterwards. As everyone would expect, Jamaicans don't celebrate Halloween, but there is one neighbourhood in Kingston (Riva Ridge in Jack's Hill) where many of the neighbours host private parties and open up their doors to any children and families who want to go trick or treating. Here's Halloween, Jamaica sytle. That's Igor above. You'll just have to believe me on that one.And I even got to dress up. Thanks Bernadette for inviting us along and Igor for letting us share a fun Halloween evening.
