I wanted to purchase a Help Jamaica 2011 calendar but unfortunately they are currently all sold out, but that's a good thing. Hopefully they will print another batch so I have a chance to buy one. While I was on the site I noticed these facts highlighted from UNICEF.1. Primary education is not compulsory and despite high enrolment, the right to education is not guaranteed to all Jamaican children.2. 11,000 children between the ages of 12 and 16 are not in school.3. The poorest families have five times as many children as the wealthiest.4. 516,000 Jamaicans (19.7%) live in poverty. Almost half of them (231,-098) are children.5. 203 children in 2004 were arrested for crimes:murder (44)shooting (58)rape (57)carnal abuse (44)Jamaica truly is a land of contrasts. With all the impressive things Jamaica has accomplished as seen in my previous post, Jamaica has serious human rights issues. These are some of the reasons we CUSO-VSO volunteers are here. Please help keep our volunteers in Jamaica and around the world with a donation on our behalf to CUSO-VSO:http://my.e2rm.com/personalPage.aspx?registrationID=829596&LangPref=en-CA
