Another fabulous weekend! Friday I travelled to Kigali and met John for dinner at Republica which was lovely. I had a vegetarian burger which was a very nice break from my normal omelette which I am getting very bored with. Saturday morning I met Abdel at Bourbon and we headed to Karibu to take part in Vol Com. Vol Com is the volunteer committee where representatives of the Rwanda VSO volunteers discuss issues between themselves and with VSO. Abdel, Brigid and I have joined from our intake. It was a good meeting and it felt like we achieved a lot which was good. Even better was lunch afterwards! After the meeting Abdel and I went and did some shopping for Gitmas which was that night. As both of us are rubbish at shopping, and as we had a big list of things to get, I was not looking forward to it, but we actually did ok and managed to get everything. We rewarded ourselves with a drink in Bourbon with Brigid, Patrick, Christine and Vanessa. Abdel and I then went and met Catherine and Roisin and headed to Gitarama for Gitmas! When we arrived at the house I was very impressed to see that Pauline, Julia and Isy had been very busy decorating and it looked amazing! So Christmassy. It was quite late when we arrived so I just had time to have a shower and go and collect some extra chairs from Tom’s before the party started. It was a brilliant night. There was about 20 people there and everyone was on fabulous form. We played pass the parcel (which Isy had made and was brilliant!). It had forfeits if you unwrapped a layer (to Isy’s cries of ‘careful, only one layer’) and my forfeit was to name everyone in the room. Luckily I managed it. We also played a Christmas themed ‘Werewolf’. Unfortunately we managed to kill Santa first which didn’t do much for our Christmas spirit! I was killed off pretty early too- apparently I was talking too much!Unfortunately I was too busy having fun that I didn’t take any photos. I am doing my best to hunt some down.Sunday, Christine, Vanessa, John, Moira, Pauline, Julia and I went to Brothers and spent the day waiting for food, eating food and playing games whilst hiding from the rain. When the rain finally stopped we headed back to ours for tea and Christmas cake (courtesy of Vanessa’s mum- thank you!) John had just collected his pick up and as there were a lot of us Pauline, Moira and I decided to ride in the back as we have seen many a Rwandan do. It was so much fun and I think we amused many of our neighbours.Pauline, Julia and I spent the evening watching 10 things I hate about you (or more accurately I snored through 10 things I hate about you whilst Pauline and Julia watched it).Gitmas was a huge success and I’m already planning our next party- Valentines anyone?
