Two colleagues and I collected Geri from Kigali on Wednesday. There was a little confusion as they dropped me off at the guest house where Geri was staying and told me they would see me at the airport. I questioned why they were going to the airport and why they thought they would see me there.“That’s where Geri is” they replied. I explained that “no, Geri was at the guest house and as soon as they finished their tasks in Kigali they should come and collect us”. “Of course” they said as they started driving off. “See you at the airport!” Luckily they did turn up at the guest house. Whether they went the airport as well I’m not sure!Geri had the fab idea of bringing some of the YWCA Rwanda crafts to the guest house to sell to the new volunteers which worked well.On Thursday I found out that YWCA had won $45,000USD. Two of my colleagues had gone to Singapore to present the organisation and had been awarded two prizes. They called me from Singapore to tell me which resulted in whoops of delight in the bank (where I was at the time helping Geri to open a bank account). The‘Git Crew’ all met up on Thursday at Hotel Splendid to welcome the new volunteers. There are loads of us now. About 15 living in or near Gitarama for various reasons. The weekend saw many of the volunteers descend upon Butare for Christine and Isy’s birthdays. As always the night ended at Space Place where we presented the ladies with a cake, a lap dance each and a t-shirt honouring the occasion.
