Apologies to my regular readership of three (Susmita, Liz& Yolanda) and occasional passers-by from the Ukraine, Malaysia, South Korea and Russia (thank you Google Analytics) for my longer than usual absence from this blog. I blame a trip to Kolkata (post eventually forthcoming), busy work schedule and newfound love of cricket (I have discovered IPL cricket which to me seems like India’s equivalent of American baseball as it’s as much about the showmanship, crowd shots and cheerleading as it is about the game). So whilst I get down to writing some proper posts, here’s what you missed over the last month;India won the cricket world cup. An amazing moment to be in India and I am very happy for them that they won although I still haven’t quite adjusted to the customary mode of celebrating whereby everyone simultaneously ignites earthquake inducing, teeth shatteringly loud fireworks that go on for hoursThe Tiger population went up by 20%. Not just over the last month obviously but since 2001 when the last census was carried out. The latest population count in India was also calculated to be at 1.2 billion putting India just behind China and likely to overtake them in population numbers by 2015.Indian activist Anna Hazare went on hunger strike to push for new anti-corruption laws. The government agreed to set up a new panel which would look at drafting tighter anti-corruption legislation and include civil society members. Indian citizens are also pointing the finger at each other and their own responsibility to not partake in corruption as the only way to ensure it can be tackled. Expect to see long queues in the post office, an increase in the number of speeding and parking fines and a dip in timeshare sales in Barbados to Indian government officials (just kidding Dr Singh).Susmita, Liz& Yolanda, normal blogging activity will resume shortly…
