Tonight the desert comes to NorwichAnd I will dance the night awayListening to the musicRemembering the starlight skyUnder which we slept.Tonight the music will fill my heartAnd I will sing your songsTo guitar strumsAnd pounding drumsAnd memories remet.Across the world they travel singingSongs of suffering and deathOf family and a nation lostOf love and self respect.Their message travels far and wideFrom homelands turned to dustTheir voice a woeful desert bluesOf loyalty and trust. For me they sing a memoryCloistered deep within my heartOf love across the desertThe sorry of being apart. Some say the desert’s emptyBut they don’t have eyes to seeThe wonders of its wildnessAnd the rose you gave to me.© Sheila Ash 18thJune 2016ashramblings
