It is raining cats and dogs (or donkeys and camels perhaps would be more appropriate) outside at the moment. The sound of the rain crashing down on the tin roof is deafening. Even more so now as I just realised that the rain has turned to HAIL! How incredible. I would be sitting here feeling really happy thinking it is like of wintery England coming to make me feel a bit Christmassy if it weren’t for a conversation I had with someone earlier about the rain. This rain/ hail is not normal at this time of year and could ruin the crops just as they are about to be harvested. Many schools in the area have already broken up in order to allow the children to help out on the farm.Irregular rainfall- a symptom of climate change. It is important to remember that climate change doesn’t just lead to less rain and droughts or more rain and floods but instead unpredictable weather patterns which can have devastating effects on farming. With the majority of the country’s GDP dependant on agriculture this could really hamper development efforts in Ethiopia.
