You’d think after 3 months I would be used to the different way Ethiopians tell the time. However, I just seem to get myself more muddled each day as I try to work out whether we are talking Local Time or International Time. It seems the more thought I give it the more confused I get. It amused me the other week, on our HDP workshop, when we were allowed to use the internet in our breaks but had to sign our name and give the time and date of use. As I wrote9.05am 14/12/2009I noticed that the entry above mine said2.45 02/03/2002.It really adds to the feeling of living in a parallel universe when you find that not only do they start counting hours 6 hours later than the rest of the world, but they also have New Years in September and are 7 (soon to be 8) years behind most of the world!
