Merry Christmas! There’s no internet network in Chipata today (something about the weather conditions), so this is a late entry to wish everyone a merry Christmas wherever you are.I woke up this morning to the sounds of the church bells. I’m fortunate enough to live very closely to the Anglican Church which is one of the oldest buildings in Chipata and quintessentially British, so it was lovely walking past there on Christmas morning as I got a smaller taster of home. The only difference was that at 8am, it was a hot sunny morningand I could see women carrying babies on their backs in colourful chitenges alongside smartly dressed men in sharp suits with even more smartly dressed children. I admit I didn’t attend the Church service, but nonetheless I paid a visit to some other VSOs and we exchanged gifts and drank coffee with cinnamon and ate a lot of chocolates and cakes. That evening I had a traditional Kenyan meal at a friend’s house who is from Nairobi and we ate LOTS. The evening was rounded off by a good movie starring George Clooney. Unfortunately I was so tired from all the food and the sugary snacks that Ifell asleep and missed the end. I’m not sure what happened to George, but all I know was that I really enjoyed my first Zambian Christmas.
