It’s been a busy few days in the lead up to the World AIDS Day, which is being commerated tomorrow on the the 1st December. This year the theme for World AIDs day is “Universal Access and Human Rights”. For Zambians the message is about the fact that having access to HIV Prevention, Treatment,Care and Support is a Human Right”. This theme focuses on the critical need to protect human rights and remove discriminatory barriers to attaining access for all to HIV prevention, treatment, care and support. This year’s campaign continues to accelerate the global response to HIV and AIDS by helping people keep their promises using the slogan, “Stop AIDS. Keep the Promise”, which will run up to the year 2010. I met with colleagues from other NGOS in the town last Wednesday to discuss catering requirements for the two day event, which will involve a candlelighting service at St Annescathedral this evening and a full day of events at the David Kaunda Stadium in Chipata for the main commemorations tomorrow. My organisation Dzithandizeni Nutrition Group will also hold a satellite event at Molozi School tomorrow (1st December) where there will be cooking demonstrations, HIV and behaviour change education programmes throughout the main day. At the weekend, I even heard my chairperson Mr Shawa promoting the event on our local radio station Breeze FM, so I hope it’s a success.I’ve been tasked with capturing photos of the events and video footage, so I hope to be able to put some pictures up on the blog. Keep you posted!
