Today I set off with some fellow VSOs to Mfuwe (home to South Luangwa National Park), which is home to countless wild animals including Giraffes, Lions, Elephants and Zebras. We started the journey after lunchtime and we headed north of Chipata along a bumpy potholed dirt track, which offered lots of rural sights! (Monkeys, women carrying goods and water on their heads– even the sight of children smiling and waving at us as we drove past was enough to make us smile!). The journey to Mfuwe was beautiful we even clapped everytime we were fortunate enough to come across some tarmac roads, but despite the bumpy journey, there was nothing so spectacular than descending down one of the mountains with a full view of the African landscape stretching for miles with trees in their lush glory. 2 hours later we arrived at the Catholic Diocese where we were lodging. We were greeted by various baboons who seemed to have made the lodgings their home too and also Josephthe manager who took us to Flatdogs camp near the park where we had a meal. It was there where the rainy season began ( a full down pour which lasted 3 hours). The power cuts set in and we spent that night gazing at the stars excited about meeting the local wildlife in the morning.
