·        The  beautiful music played by a lovely night guard on his Kirar (traditional Ethiopian Guitar type thing). It has become a bit of a routine now that after a night out we pass by his hut for a short performance. He insists he is just learning but it sounds so fantastic. It seems all the more amazing to me as he is practicing while sitting inside his tiny guard hut. It is made of corrugated iron raised above the ground by wooden poles and is about 1m wide, 1m tall and just long enough for him to lie down.·        My friend Gashaw describing my white male friends in Ambo as ...’those gigantic men’.·        Walking home last night and having to stop approximately every 100m to shake hands with a small child that had run to say hello to me.·        At the market the other day when some cute children were trying to sell me some very old broken children’s plastic willies that they must have found in a rubbish dump or something.
