Sitting in my bedroom surrounded by packing lists, shopping lists and to do lists I thought it was about time I started my blog. In 2 weeks I will be jetting off to Cambodia for 14 months with VSO - an International Development charity. To say I'm excited is somewhat of an understatement. It's taken a lot just to get to this point and I worked out since I first applied I've been through 4 houses, 4 jobs and 2 boyfriends - I guess patience pays off in the end!So recently VSO have been training me in all sorts of ways that will hopefully help me be fully prepared for my trip. The most interesting of these has been motorcycle training. For this I had to go to Bolton for 3 days and I was absolutely scared witless (not of Bolton but of riding a motorcycle). However after 10 minutes we discovered I'm a natural and I was soon zooming around (at 40mph) the moors of Lancashire. I definitely didn't nearly turn into someones driveway and most certainly did not attempt to get off the bike to move it round while the engine was still on. I also had a go on a gear bike around the car park but stuck to the moped on the road. So I am now fully qualified to drive a bike up to 150cc on the road. Anyone who knows me well will probably be as surprised as me that this is the case!I have also been on two training weekends at the lovely Harborne Hall in Birmingham and have met 3 other volunteers who are also going to Cambodia. Two already went out in September and the other is on the same intake as me in October. They're all guys around my age and I took to them straight away - although I have a feeling I'll have to keep them somewhat in line ;) One of them, Ingran, has stupidly been roped into doing a sponsored event with me that could end in the consumption of some lovely fried tarantulas.
