I know I've been fortunate for the last 4 years to be able to get in my car at home and get to County Hall in 10 minutes, so I certainly wasn't expecting the same in Delhi - especially as Katie and I would be working 20 miles apart across the city. But with our flat near to Katie's place of work, I have to contend with the experience of Delhi's public transport network. My journey starts at 6.30am by catching the rickshaw to the Metro station - a fare of between R30 - 50 (40p - 60p) depending on how hard I wish to haggle. Then on to the Metro (more ofthatexperience some other time but just to say it makes Tokyo's rush hour seem an easy stroll) that's all sparkly and fairly new....and very cheap R20 for an hour journey involving three lines (think of South Woodford to Pimlico) and then another rickshaw on toAction for Autism, arriving just after 8am.Can I cope with 3.5 hours a day of travelling? Hmmmmm.
