Not Delhi! After struggling in the first few weeks to get used to the noise through the night (it's a mix of car horns, dogs barking, fireworks and drumming from the wedding parties) we’ve been sleeping rather well…..until last night when I awoke to the bed rocking (which I initially thought was Katie turning over in her sleep!) and then becoming slightly more shuddering and violent. Now I wasn’t aware that Delhi has earthquake issues until I spent an anoraky spare hour at the Metro museum last week which went into detail the structural support required to deal with the earth movements. There isn’t any mention of earthquakes in the guidebooks nor a peep from VSO, so it came as a bit of a surprise that as well as being trampled to death by an elephant, bitten by a poisonous snake or spider, stung by a scorpion or simply run over on the roads, that I could be crushed by falling masonry! So, a few seconds after waking there’s a realization that thisisan earthquake and a lively one at that. And what does one do next? Hide under the bed in the forlorn hope that its flimsy metal frame will give protection?….or run into the street – stark naked knowing that it certainlywouldgive the neighbours a scare?..... no, after checking we were both okay, we decided to stay in bed and go back to sleep.
