I'm afraid this isn't going to be as "deep" or thought provoking as some of our recent blog posts .......... but on Friday evening we went to the first part of a wedding - the Ring Exchange ceremony. We were invited by one of our fellow VSO volunteer's landlord whose daughter was the bride. The invitation of course necessitated a shopping trip to buy a new outfit! The ceremony was in one of Delhi's smart hotels and the entrance and room were adored with fresh flowers. A very frequent supply of "snacks" kept us going until a fantastic buffet was served at 11pm - they also helped to soak up the wine - which we now have become rather unaccustomed too! All the guests looked very smart and I wish that I had some stocks and shares in Indian sequin makers!  The ceremony was a simple exchange of rings after which there was some very enthusiastic dancing - which Daniel got very much in the spirit of although I feared slightly for his safety  as the dancefloor was also shared with the drummers who were flicking their drum sticks about with gusto! The couple now do not see each other again, until the wedding ceremony next week - this will, of course, demand a second shopping trip. We had a great evening, with great company and are looking forward to part 2!!!
