America had it, Egypt’s getting it – and now I want it too. Change that is. No, this isn’t a call to arms for mass public unrest and a new democratic government – it’s a request that when I try to pay for something that costs Rs60 with Rs100 note, I don’t keep getting asked for the right money as there isn’t change.Of course, I don’t expect the rickshaw to be a sub branch of the State Bank of India but I do expect large shops etc to be able change a Rs500 (£8) note without the cashier reacting as if I’ve pulled a  Naja najafrom my pocket!Maybe it’s a symptom of the tension in India’s economy. At one level, there’s the westernized middle class using Rs500 and Rs100 notes whilst at another level, there’s still large parts of the economy that view Rs10/20/50 notes as the standard operating units.Yes, this may sound petty given all the other issues in the world but I need to get it off my chest. Besides, now that I’m post 40, surely it’s okay to be a “Grumpy Old Man”??
