We have a man who comes round, usually between 5am and 5.45am, six days a week. He does a drum roll outside our house to get our attention and then shouts things in ikinyarwanda about the forthcoming local elections and other town business. I am assured he won’t do this so often once the elections are over. Unfortunately for me, the elections coincided with my arrival in Gitarama a fortnight ago and will continue in stages for another fortnight. This morning he surpassed himself by coming at 2.45am.
